This public health intelligence role combines data-driven insights with the opportunity to shape health policies and programmes that impact communities on a broad scale.
You’ll work with cutting-edge analytical tools and techniques to tackle pressing health issues, from disease prevention to health disparities, while collaborating with experts.
This role will focus on children and young peoples’ health and all age mental health and wellbeing and will support work to identify priorities that will underpin activities across both areas.
This position offers a rare chance to influence public health strategies and make a tangible difference in population health outcomes.
Successful candidates will join a contingent of specialist population health analysts and researchers within the policy unit. The senior analyst will be responsible for developing a tobacco health needs assessment, dashboards, and BI systems to support the understanding of the local picture, working across other lifestyle public health services related to this.
Accountabilities
Responsible for providing Senior Leaders and stakeholders with high quality business intelligence to enable decisions on current and future service provision to be taken.
Working collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure a joined up organisational intelligence service with other corporate support services.
Responsible for using specialist skills, knowledge and experience to ensure the provision of high quality data; leading project teams where more complex pieces of analysis are required.
Responsible for providing expert analyst advice and guidance to Senior Leaders.
Proactively providing analysis in relation to support the Council’s business plans and address key business issues.
Responsible for undertaking complex research and tracking national policy in relevant areas to ensure the service provided is pertinent, useful and proactive.
Utilising a holistic approach to complex analysis to help Senior Leaders review outcomes delivered and understand whether the Council is delivering value for money.
Responsible for providing Senior Leaders and stakeholders with advice and intelligence from internal and external sources to ensure that risks and opportunities are identified for the Council.
Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.
Skills, knowledge and experience
Educated to degree level or equivalent by experience.
Evidence of continuing professional development and expert knowledge in relevant professional area.
Have specialist knowledge of public health statistical techniques, close familiarity with sources of data on health, demographics, and wider determinants, and the ability to derive and share population health insights with a variety of audiences.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with proven ability to work in partnership across the health and wellbeing system. Strong technical skills in the use of analytical software to create dashboards, maps, and tabular presentations.
Significant experience in successfully delivering high quality, complex interpretation and analysis of data that impacts on strategic decision making - within local government or a public sector environment is desirable.
Knowledge of governance requirements around quantitative and qualitative research methodology, including excellent working knowledge of the Data Protection Act.
Significant experience of providing and analytical service to Senior Leaders in an organisation.
Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders, using clear and appropriate communication together with excellent report writing and presentation skills.
Knowledge and experience of using a variety of methods, tools and technologies to analyse complex data and to appropriately store and share information.
